Our Music

Currently, the Yarmouth Shantymen have two CD's available: Old Cameron at the Wheel and Heavy Weather:

The first tape/CD produced by the Yarmouth Shantymen, "Old Cameron at the Wheel" was an effort to collect some of the shanties which had been sung by the group since the mid-80's . It is comprised of a variety of shanties from the lively "Santiano" to the slower capstan shanty "Leave Her Johnny".

The second CD, "Heavy Weather" reflects the expansion of the the group's repertoire. The rousing "Bully in the Alley" sets the tone for the CD with a distinctive Caribbean flavour, while the traditional Irish song "The Parting Glass" demonstrates the range of style with its slower, reflective qualities. This collection of shanties is augmented with several sea songs which could have been sung as "forebitters" (songs sung by the crew as they gathered around the "forebits" on the forecastle when they were not engaged "on watch").
